Floral bee pollen – a powerful, natural multivitamin straight from the bees
Flower pollen, also called bee pollen or pollen loads, is one of the most valuable gifts of the hive and a real, 100% natural superfood. Foragers gather it from flowering plants, mix it with their own saliva and nectar, and then form it into small pellets carried in baskets on their legs. The beekeeper safely collects this treasure using a so-called pollen trap before the insects can bring it deep into the hive. The colour, taste, and hardness of the pollen depend on the plant it was collected from – from light, sweet, and soft spring grains to dark (even blue from phacelia or black from poppy), harder, and slightly bitter summer grains.
A wealth of over 250 nutrients in a single grain!
It is not only an excellent protein food for bees, but above all, powerful support for the human body. Real bee pollen contains over 250 identified nutrients. Its composition includes:
- High-quality proteins: Up to 12% content, including as many as 32 amino acids (including all essential exogenous amino acids that build tissues).
- Vitamin complex: B group vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, B12), a powerful dose of antioxidants (vitamin C, E), vitamin A supporting vision, as well as vitamins PP, P, D, H, folic acid, pantothenic acid, and biotin.
- Valuable minerals: Potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, iron (essential for anaemia), selenium, zinc, silicon, manganese, copper, and iodine.
- Enzymes and lipids: As many as 42 biologically active enzymes (including amylase and invertase which improve digestion), flavonoids, and valuable Omega-3 and Omega-6 acids.
Health-promoting properties of bee pollen
Thanks to its diverse and rich botanical composition, bee pollen exhibits an incredibly wide spectrum of activity on our health. It naturally supports the immune system, acting as an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal agent.
It provides excellent support for the nervous system – reducing stress, facilitating concentration, and reducing the feeling of fatigue. Additionally, flower pollen wonderfully regenerates the body after illnesses and intense physical exertion. It also has a cleansing effect, supporting the work of the intestines and liver in removing toxins from the body, and the antioxidants it contains perfectly improve the condition of skin and hair.
How to use bee pollen to fully absorb its properties?
Every pollen grain has a natural, very hard, two-layered shell (made of cellulose and sporopollenin) that even stomach acid cannot break down. To extract its health properties, it must be properly prepared for consumption. Dry pollen should not be swallowed! The best, proven methods are:
- Water solution (absorbability 8-10 times higher!): In the evening, pour lukewarm water (max 40°C) over 2-4 teaspoons of pollen, optionally add a teaspoon of honey and leave for 6-10 hours. Drink in the morning on an empty stomach. Use for 8-12 weeks, then take a 3-week break.
- With dairy products: Mix the pollen with yoghurt or kefir 30 minutes before eating. The lactic acid will break down the hard shell, and the fats will increase the absorption of vitamins A, D, and E.
- Mechanical grinding: Pollen can be ground in a grinder (making sure the temperature does not exceed 40°C) and combined with honey, whose acidic pH will help release valuable vitamins.
Highest quality and safety – the Skarby Roztocza production process
To ensure bee pollen retains its properties and does not spoil, we follow strict procedures. We gently dry fresh pollen at 37°C (simulating hive conditions) until a safe moisture level below 6% is reached. Then we subject it to winnowing and sieving, to clean it of wax or grass particles, after which it undergoes a 2-3 day freezing process (-18°C), killing any potential microorganisms. The finished, safe product is sealed exclusively in glass jars, protecting it from moisture and pests.
Pollen a pierzga – co wybrać i dla kogo?
Flower pollen is a cheaper, wax-free, and finer base for bee bread. If you let the bees bring it into the hive and undergo lactic fermentation – you get bee bread. Although pollen on its own is less absorbable due to its hard shell, after proper soaking in water (as per the instructions above), its composition and absorbability differ little from bee bread!
Remember, however, to perform an allergy test before consuming pollen for the first time (take e.g. 1 gram and observe the body). It can be given to children from 3 years of age (in smaller doses: 10g for 3-5 year olds, 15g for 6-12 year olds), and also used during pregnancy to enrich the diet (after consulting your doctor).
