Honey is acidic – (pH 3.1-6.1) due to the presence of organic acids. Acids can cause metal corrosion, which is why there is a concern that honey might also cause it. In reality, however, only leaving a metal spoon in honey for a long time will cause it to take on a metallic aftertaste. Storing honey in metal containers can affect its taste. If we use a metal spoon only for the purpose of scooping honey from a jar – it will not cause corrosion of the spoon. Thus, using a metal spoon for honey is safe, assuming short-term contact.

If you are concerned about chemical reactions or corrosion, it is worth considering alternative solutions. Wooden or plastic spoons are a safe option, as they do not react with honey acids or introduce unwanted substances into the product.
