Our honey story dates back to the 1930s, when our great-grandfather had one of the larger farms in the eastern part of Roztocze – the picturesque Lublin region, where he worked in agriculture and horticulture, and a large apple orchard spread around his farm, in which wooden hives inhabited by industrious bees stood. These insects played a very important role in both fruit-growing and agriculture – they pollinated the surrounding fruit trees, shrubs, and fields in the area, guaranteeing a harvest bounty. The apiary was not large, but a dozen or so hives were enough for the honey needs of the immediate family and local neighbours.
Unfortunately, his son, our grandfather, was allergic to bee venom… Because of this, he could not continue his father's passion and handed over the apiary to the parish priest from the local parish. Here the bee story breaks off for a while, only to be reborn in the next generation, where Uncle Paweł decides to renew family traditions and reactivates the apiary, deciding to pursue an education at a beekeeping technical college. The continuous development of the apiary, gaining knowledge and experience, as well as daily contact with these fascinating insects, resulted in a significant increase in the production of honey and bee products, and the introduction of a migratory policy allowed for the acquisition of more unique types of honey. Along with the increase in production, a problem arose with the distribution of the produced goods, as there was much more honey than the needs of family, friends, or neighbours indicated.
This is where our Dad Mariusz comes in; while studying in Kraków, he noticed the residents' need for quality products from the countryside and began a sweet collaboration with his brother-in-law, offering them at Poland's oldest traditional agricultural products market – Stary Kleparz. Helping with apiary duties quickly led to a fascination with the world of bees, which was shared with both immediate family members and customers. Honeys from the family apiary quickly gained a group of regular customers, and transport to a larger city allowed for their increased sale. Trust in the family brand and customer satisfaction with the quality of honeys purchased straight from the apiary led to offering a wider range of products from the native region. The commitment of our Grandfather and Grandmother allowed for the production of more homemade preserves, which became an additional source of income for them in retirement, and for our customers a return to the longed-for flavours of childhood.
A large number of recommendations and the high quality of the products offered created a kind of family brand, which, however, lacked identification in the form of a name, logo, and consistent visual character for the products offered. This is where we appeared - Brothers Łukasz and Karol - the youngest generation, who gave a name to the family venture - Skarby Roztocza. A fresh look at the traditional beekeeping industry resulted in the creation of one of the first online shops in Poland with honey straight from the apiary. Working diligently and learning from our mistakes, we built our image and brand in a completely new space of the emerging online sales market, also constantly expanding our knowledge in running an apiary farm. Regular contact with bees and observing them allowed us to understand that these insects are not guided by instinct, but by reason, and our fascination with them allowed us to love these creatures.
Currently, we continue multi-generational family traditions, running an apiary farm, while trying to implement numerous innovations and a fresh perspective on one of the oldest and noblest industries in the world. Many years of experience in production allow us to offer high-quality honeys, natural preserves, and healthy bee products.
