It is believed that drinking warm water with honey and the addition of lemon first thing in the morning helps to increase the body's metabolism. According to a 2010 study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, honey helps us in many aspects of our lives, improves our immunity, strengthens the body, and also helps in appetite control.[1]

We encourage you to increase your knowledge on the use of water with honey.

Water with honey and lemon

Honey can help us with weight loss, when consumed with lukewarm water and lemon juice (or quince juice). Many people drink water with honey first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, as a way to stimulate weight loss. Honey is a source of as many as 26 amino acids and valuable vitamins and minerals; it contains, among others, calcium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, many of which can beneficially affect the body's metabolism. Thanks to metabolism regulation, food is properly digested, absorbed and utilised, and fat is converted into useful energy. In this way, our overall health improves.

Studies suggest that daily drinking of about one teaspoon or 10 ml of honey mixed with 5 ml of lemon and 150 ml of lukewarm water can support the weight loss process. [2] The lemon juice contained in this mixture is loaded with vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid), which can cleanse and improve liver function, as well as accelerate fat metabolism. Furthermore, lemon juice can increase the action of glutathione, which is a key antioxidant in the fight against free radicals in our body, and can also improve our immunity. By combining the weight loss properties of lemon juice with the metabolism-stimulating effect of honey, this magic drink, consumed once a day on an empty stomach, can bring very beneficial results.

Water with honey, pollen or bee bread

Bee pollen and bee bread are a rich source of vitamins such as vitamins E, C, D, as well as B vitamins. In pollen and bee bread we also find a lot of minerals: phosphorus, zinc, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron , manganese and sodium.

The greatest therapeutic effects are achieved by pouring lukewarm water over 1 teaspoon of pollen or bee bread , as well as 1 teaspoon of honey and leaving such a solution for 8-10 hours. The drink should be consumed in the morning on an empty stomach. It is important that the water is not hot - maximum 40 degrees Celsius, but we recommend a lower one, so that the bee bread and pollen do not lose their medicinal properties. It is recommended that such a treatment lasts for a minimum of 3 months.

Water with honey and cinnamon

Another popular recipe for a healing drink combines honey with warm water and cinnamon. Scientific research suggests that using cinnamon in the daily diet can be beneficial for weight loss. [4] To prepare such a drink, mix one teaspoon of ground cinnamon with one tablespoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water. Mix the ingredients thoroughly and drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

Cinnamon can also have an effect on regulating blood sugar levels and glucose metabolism. High blood sugar levels can also lead to increased fat storage in our body, so cinnamon can realistically affect the weight loss process. Combined with the metabolism-boosting power of honey, this mixture can be a powerful stimulus for weight loss.

Sugar substitute

Honey is one of the best sugar substitutes. It can be used with various drinks, such as water with lemon, tea with honey or even as coffee with honey. Adding honey to drinks helps to obtain additional nutrients, good taste and reduce the risk of weight gain.
In an 8-week clinical study published in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, it was discovered that honey can have a beneficial effect on weight loss and blood lipid concentrations in diabetic patients. However, it raises haemoglobin A1C levels, so cautious consumption of this food by people with diabetes is recommended. [5]

Water with honey for better sleep

The brain needs a constant supply of fuel to sleep through the night. The primary fuel for our body, which is essential for us, is precisely the sugar that is contained in honey. Glucose molecules combine to form glycogen, which is produced by the liver. If the liver stops secreting enough glycogen at night, the brain becomes restless, which can disrupt restorative sleep. By consuming a tablespoon of honey with water before bedtime, we replenish glycogen in the liver, providing it in an amount sufficient for a full, good sleep. In this way, we can use one of the proven ways of using honey for healthy sleep.
